Memphis-Shelby County Schools, like school districts across the state, are working to build momentum and encourage students to take the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) and End of Course (EOC) tests to the best of their abilities. 

The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) requires all state public schools to administer the TCAP and EOC tests in person. These standardized assessments, used to evaluate a student’s mastery in their grade’s content, will be administered to students from April 15-30. 

Throughout the school year, teachers and school leaders introduce and review standards and lessons, and administrators continuously work to address the challenges students face outside the classroom.

Several schools are hosting TCAP spirit weeks and similar events to turn test anxiety into test excitement. Egypt Elementary School launched its spirit week with a tropical theme, declaring on Monday that “TN Ready (TCAP) will be a breeze!” Germantown Middle School’s Family Gear Up Night will provide students and their families with advice and strategies to achieve test success. High school students preparing for EOC tests have been offered bridge sessions, tutoring, and more at schools across the District.

District staff are supporting schools in various ways during testing. Below are a few tips to help your student prepare at home and during the test.

Before the Test

• Practice good study habits! Review your notes daily, make a study guide, etc.
• Gather everything you need for the test and have it ready to go so you don’t have to rush the morning of the test.
• Get a good night’s sleep, and arrive early for the test so that you feel comfortable and settled. 

During the Test

• Read/listen to all of the instructions carefully.
• If you’re provided with scratch paper, use it! You may need to write down all of your formulas, facts, etc. before the test begins.
• Make sure you answer all of the questions, and check your work!

Memphis-Shelby County Schools continues to outperform expectations! The District achieved a Level 5 TVAAS (growth) distinction from the TDOE and has proudly raised its graduation rate and average ACT score. The District also made significant gains from 2022-2023, outpacing state growth in some subjects.
